PE and Sports at Compton Primary
At Compton, Pysical Education is an integral part to the wellbeing of our children not just during their PE lessons but throughout the entire school day. We regularly participate in Outdoor Learning in our grounds which include a private embankment on an old disused railway and have also been given permission by the local parish committee to use the village playing fields for after-school clubs.
Prior to Lockdown, PE Lead Mr Harte alongside fellow staff members, held a range of Sports clubs including Netball and Cross Country. There was to be an Athletics one as well scheduled for the Spring and Summer Terms.
During the Summer term of Lockdown, Compton took part in the vast majority of the Virtual School Games and were proudly County Champions in Footgolf. Participation was very high given the circumstances and we got stuck in with whatever challenge was set. Our children particularly liked doing the Alternative Olympics especially rolling a ball with-out being able to see!
This academic year we have continued with our provision of Real PE and have the pleasure of inviting one of the Create team, to lead INSET in January which will primarily revolve around Gymnastics. This is an area of the curriculum we feel as a school needs a push.
On top of this, we have secured the services of a range of coaches to provide taster sessions in Football, Basketball and Dance as well as West Berk's very own James Mandy, who will be leading Outdoor Adventurous Activities in the Summer.
Our aim is to engage every child in physical activity whether that be in playtime, competiton, staff led lessons or after school clubs. This we feel is achievable given the emphasis placed on a healthy lifestyle and both the mental and physical well-being of our entire school family.
Inter-School Competitions 2020-21
Due to current guidelines and restrictions, holding or attending any competitions is not possible. However, there are discussions in place for when this would be possible so please look out for more information from Mr Harte. Football will most likely be the first sport back but there will be Athletics, Netball and hopefully X-Country which had a lot of interest Years 3-6 last year.
PE and Sports Action Plan
The action plan covers the Intent, Implementation and Impact of what Compton Primary is aiming to achieve by the end of the academic year 2020-21. Our main INTENT is for ALL children to.
Participate and understand their learning in all six areas of Real PE (cogs)
Enjoy their PE and sport experiences
It will be IMPLEMENTED via different ways including: Teachers including support staff being trained how to access and deliver Real PE, Real Gym and Rea Dance;delivering a 2-year cycle to cover a wide range of sports, taking part in School, County and Countrywide competitons; and encouraged to use the break and lunchtimes to remain physically active throughout the school day.
Each term, the IMPACT will be analysed and this will change the Intent should the need arise.
