Art and Design
Intent
The intent is to ensure all pupils have the opportunity to produce, record and evaluate creative, imaginative work through exploration of their own ideas and the work of others.
Our aims are that all our children will:
- Develop their interest and curiosity about art and design through a series of lessons that offer progression, of knowledge and skills and the opportunity to explore and ask questions.
- Become increasingly confident and proficient in a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, sculpting, as well as other selected craft skills, such as collage, printing, weaving and pattern making.
- Feel able to demonstrate their skills in a variety of ways and to explore their emotional expression through art (further enhancing their personal, social and emotional development.)
- Build up a knowledge of famous artists, designers and craft makers.
Implementation
- Lessons are linked to both the National Curriculum and the Cornerstones projects followed by each class/year group.
- All lessons are carefully planned to ensure that a broad range of art media and techniques are explored each year, with attention being paid to development and progression of knowledge and skills.
- A range of media and resources are available for use in lessons.
- Children are encouraged to explore, express, develop and evaluate their own ideas.
- Children’s’ work is be systematically recorded, discussed and evaluated.
Impact
- Teachers feel confident and supported in presenting well planned lessons that ensure development and progression of knowledge and skills.
- Art and design learning is enjoyed by pupils across school.
- All children learn about and explore broad range of art media, skills and techniques.
- Children feel supported and able to improve their resilience and perseverance by continually evaluating and improving their work.
- Quality work/evidence is celebrated and presented in a variety of ways.
- Children are confident and able to talk about art and design, and about different artists and designers.
- Children become more confident in analysing their work and giving their opinion on their own and other works of art and design.
- Children can reflect on and talk about the impact of art and design on our daily lives and on the wider world.
